Foxhound Rescue Information: The American Foxhound is a fierce pack hunter with a gentle and affectionate disposition when among people. Foxhounds are especially sociable with other dogs. This breed is a natural hunter and is not a good choice for a household with pets other than dogs. American Foxhounds are generally good with children. Some are very protective and others are friendly toward strangers. The American Foxhound can be somewhat difficult to housebreak, will follow interesting scents, and may take off after squirrels, etc. These dogs are best suited to a home with some acreage.

Foxhound Trivia: The American Foxhound is descended from English Foxhounds which came to America in the mid seventeenth century. The first American Foxhound was bred from an English Foxhound and a French hound given to George Washington by Lafayette. American Foxhounds were once used to track Native Americans. The American Foxhound is exceptionally fast on the chase. The American Foxhound has an unusual bay.
