The American Foxhound is descended from English Foxhounds which came to America in the mid seventeenth century. The first American Foxhound was bred from an English Foxhound and a French hound given to George Washington by Lafayette. American Foxhounds were once used to track Native Americans. The American Foxhound is exceptionally fast on the chase.
