| The American Foxhound is descended from English Foxhounds which came to America in the mid seventeenth century. The first American Foxhound was bred from an English Foxhound and a French hound given to George Washington by Lafayette. American Foxhounds were once used to track Native Americans. The American Foxhound is exceptionally fast on the chase. The American Foxhound has an unusual bay.
