Rescue Me ID: 16-10-18-00096Nutmeg (female)

Foxhound Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Nutmeg is a gentle, loving and very smart dog. Her favorite thing is to cuddle - whether it is with a person, another dog or even a cat! She is housetrained and has even come up with her own system to tell someone she wants to go out: she runs her paw along the metal vent in the floor. If you don't hear her at the door then she'll come to whatever room you're in and run her paw along the grate there. She would surely use a bell hung by a door! She has come a long way with her crate anxiety (she does not have separation anxiety). Her thundershirt has helped so much with that. She can be in her crate overnight now, but would really love it if ... (Read More)you could let her be loose in a room (doesn't have to be your room)! She is fantastic on a leash - light as can be. She takes advantage of this lightness to snatch any food left unattended - great incentive to clean up quickly! She's not a fan of long car rides. The thundershirt has solved shorter car trip anxiety. Unfortunately her family has had a life change, requiring long car rides. They are hoping there is someone out there who can give Nutmeg the loving, local lifestyle she craves. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Foxhound in North Carolina
Foxhound Dogs can make good pets in North Carolina if they match your IifestyIe. The American Foxhound is a fierce pack hunter with a gentle and affectionate disposition when among people. Foxhounds are especially sociable with other dogs. This breed is a natural hunter and is not a good choice for a household with pets other than dogs. American Foxhounds are generally good with children. Some are very protective and others are friendly toward strangers. The American Foxhound can be somewhat difficult to housebreak, will follow interesting scents, and may take off after squirrels, etc. These dogs are best suited to a home with some acreage.
